Find and remove duplicate rows in Excel

Preparing the tool…

What this tool supports

  1. Choose one file and one worksheet. Check duplicates by 1–3 selected columns or by all business values in a row.
  2. Review duplicate groups, actual Excel row numbers, and differing values. Original business values, including leading and trailing spaces, are compared as they are.
  3. Keep the first occurrence, the last occurrence, or only records without duplicates. Confirm groups with differing values before downloading data results.

The check report includes duplicate groups, source rows, and issues. Data results include the records kept by your chosen rule and the excluded records. Your source file stays unchanged.

Use regular .xlsx tables with headers in the first row. Hidden rows are included; entirely blank rows are skipped. Saved formula results are used without recalculation. Output files are new workbooks and do not preserve source formulas or formatting.

.xlsx only, with headers in the first row. Up to 10 MiB per file and 30 MiB in total. Up to 10,000 rows and 50 columns per sheet, with 1 million input cells in total. Exports have a separate 1 million cell limit, including source references and issue sheets. Processing time depends on your device.

Text “001”, text “1”, and numeric 1 are different values. Date text is not automatically converted to a date. Integers with an absolute value of at least 10¹⁵ in match columns are flagged for possible precision loss; lost digits cannot be recovered.

Some output cells contain errors or missing formula results. Review the issues and fix the input before downloading data results. The check report is available.

What happens to blank IDs and records that cannot be checked reliably?

Blank match values, cell errors, missing formula results, and risky integers are kept and listed for review rather than automatically removed. Entire-row checking allows ordinary blank cells in comparisons; errors and missing formula results are still flagged.

Are my files uploaded or saved between visits?

Duplicate checking, combining sheets, and adding columns also run locally. Downloads are new files; source files are unchanged. These tools do not save cloud files or task history. Leaving will clear the current files and results. Make sure you have downloaded what you need.

Page visits and fixed tool actions may be collected when analytics is enabled. Spreadsheet contents and results are not attached. A download action means the browser generated the file and triggered a download; it does not confirm that the file was saved to disk.
